In early February, Year 11 learners from the Fresh Start programme at West Thames College hosted a successful charity bake sale, raising £90 for a local cause close to their hearts.

The event brought together staff and students, with a delicious range of homemade cakes, biscuits and sweet treats on offer. The initiative was organised as part of the learners’ Personal, Social and Functional Skills development, encouraging teamwork, planning and community engagement.

The £90 raised will be donated to Hounslow Animal Welfare, supporting animals and pet owners in need within the local community.

Vikki Evans, Lecturer in Personal Social & Functional Skills 14–16 (Fresh Start), said:

“We raised £90 — this will go to Hounslow Animal Welfare as all our learners had a story to tell about their family pet or someone they knew who couldn't afford vet bills for their pets.”

The bake sale not only helped raise vital funds but also highlighted the compassion and empathy of the Fresh Start learners, many of whom felt personally connected to the cause. The event was a wonderful example of students making a positive difference in their community while developing valuable life skills.
