West Thames College’s CEO and Principal, Marta Gajewska, joined local leaders, community organisations, businesses and public services at the launch of the Hounslow Women’s Network on 3 October, contributing to discussions on women’s economic empowerment and skills development.

The conference, organised by Seema Malhotra MP, Member of Parliament for Feltham and Heston, and Ruth Cadbury MP, Member of Parliament for Brentford and Isleworth, brought women from across the borough together to explore ways to support women’s employment, professional development, leadership and economic independence.

Marta took part in the Women’s Economic Empowerment and Skills panel, alongside Cllr Amie Croft; Pavita Cooper, Chair of the 30% Club UK; Mary Macleod, former MP for Brentford and Isleworth until 2015, who established the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Women in Parliament; and Silvia Del Corso, Director of PinkSEO.

As part of the panel, she shared her experience and insights on the importance of equipping women with the skills, confidence and opportunities to succeed in the workplace and progress in their careers.

The launch marks an important step towards building a network that champions the prosperity, wellbeing, leadership and safety of women and girls across Hounslow, encouraging collaboration and the sharing of ideas between local organisations and communities.

Seema Malhotra MP and Ruth Cadbury MP thanked Marta for her contribution, highlighting the value of the experience and expertise she brought to the discussions.

In their letter of thanks, they said: “The insights, experiences and expertise you shared helped to inspire attendees and sparked valuable discussions about supporting women's employment, skills development and economic empowerment across Hounslow.”

They also emphasised the importance of bringing people together through the network, stating: “As we work to build a network that promotes the prosperity, wellbeing, leadership and safety of women and girls in Hounslow, it was wonderful to have your voice and expertise as part of the conversation.”

Marta reminisced about the event saying: “For me, the strongest message from the event was the power of women championing women. Increasing women’s representation in senior leadership doesn’t happen by accident – it requires people and organisations to actively create opportunities, challenge barriers and champion talented women.

“I was proud to represent West Thames College and highlight the transformative role of education and skills in enabling more women to progress and fulfil their ambitions. Now the challenge is to turn the connections and conversations into real opportunities for women and girls across our borough.”

West Thames College is committed to supporting learners and the wider community to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to fulfil their potential. Taking part in initiatives such as the Hounslow Women’s Network provides an opportunity to strengthen local partnerships and contribute to conversations about creating a more inclusive and prosperous future for women across the borough.
