West Thames College’s recent Outstanding rating from Ofsted reflects not only the hard work of its staff but also the dedication and achievements of exceptional students like Sinikiwe.
Sinikiwe, who has been a student at the College for just over a year, is a shining example of how determination and support can lead to incredible growth.
Sinikiwe is currently studying Entry 3 Functional Skills Mathematics, a subject she chose as part of her dream to become a dental nurse.
Reflecting on her decision, she shared: “I chose this subject because I would like to study to be a dental nurse, and in order for me to pursue this course, I will definitely need to have maths. I chose maths to try a different challenge.”
Despite initially being apprehensive about maths, Sinikiwe now finds joy and confidence in the subject. She credits much of her progress to the supportive learning environment and her inspiring teacher, Joanne.
“The atmosphere in the classroom is out of this world. Our teacher explains all the topics in detail and takes it upon herself to ensure we understand,” Sinikiwe said.
Through her course, she has gained skills that extend beyond academics, such as teamwork, public speaking, and problem-solving.
“I’ve learned to listen, stay positive, and approach challenges with confidence,” she added.
These skills are not only helping her prepare for her future career but also improving her daily life.
The College’s outstanding Ofsted rating resonates deeply with Sinikiwe. “The Ofsted inspection showed the togetherness that the students and staff have within the campus. Personally, I expected an outstanding result due to the experience I have had so far,” she said.
For Sinikiwe, West Thames College is a special place. Passing English last year, after a long absence from the classroom, was a transformative moment for her. “Being in college has given me confidence, changed the way I think, and made me feel like a teenager again,” she said enthusiastically.
Sinikiwe encourages others to pursue their goals and find their own “outstanding” potential.
