What you need to know

When is my exam?

You will receive a text message and an email from the Exams Department to let you know the date, time and room number for your exam. (TOP TIP: Let the college know if your address, phone number or email address changes.)

For GCSE / BTEC paper-based exams:

  • Morning exams start at 9am.
  • Afternoon exams start at 1.30pm.

Your GCSE statement of entry will also give the time of the exam.

Exam times may vary for:

  • Functional Skills exams
  • BTEC online exams
  • Other online exams.

What to bring

  • Your ID card.
  • Statement of entry.
  • All necessary equipment for the exam – e.g. black pen, pencil, calculator and protractor. (The college does not supply these.)
  • A see-through pencil case / glasses case.
  • Bottled water is allowed but you have to remove any labelling

Place these items on your desk in the exam room

What NOT to bring

  • Mobile phone, iPod, MP3 or MP4 player or watch, or any other kind of technological or web enabled device or source of information.
  • Any notes or written materials
  • Erasable pens

On the day

  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time.
  • Please report to the Welcome Desk in the Atrium.
  • Follow all of the invigilator’s instructions.
  • Be silent when you enter the examination room. You must not talk to, attempt to communicate with, or disturb other candidates.
  • Leave any bags, coats, hats, food and drinks at the front of the exam room.

Special arrangements

If you have a disability or learning difficulty, the Inclusion Team will have told you at the start of the academic year about any additional arrangements or support you can receive. These arrangements will be in place for all of your exams.
