West Thames College's ESOL Entry 3 students recently went for a visit to the Houses of Parliament on the 22 March 2022.

Our students were treated to a tour of the building and sat in the Public Gallery of the Commons where they listened to a debate. The Education Team then provided a voting and representation workshop where the group was split into ‘constituencies’ and lobbied for support and afterwards, a mock vote took place to decide the winner.

Most of the students have only been in the UK for a short time so this was a fantastic introduction to our system of creating laws and electing our MPs.

The local MP for Brentford and Isleworth, Ruth Cadbury, then visited the group and fielded questions from the students - who certainly rose to the challenge!
