Working hours
Contractual working hours for full-time staff are 36 hours per week, or 39 hours for manual workers.
You may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends depending on the nature of your job, in which case you may be offered time off in lieu or an overtime payment, depending on your contract. Managers with management spine contracts are required to undertake evening duty in accordance with the duty rota – usually once or twice each term for two hours.
Salary
If the job you are applying for is advertised on a scale with a salary range, you will usually start at the lower end of the scale. If you can provide evidence of higher level earnings in a previous job, you will be placed on the next available point within the range, however, we cannot exceed the salary range that is offered.
We are committed to enhancing the salaries of lecturing staff. Our Lecturer Plus scheme enables lecturers who meet specific criteria to progress through their salary bar.
Your salary will be paid on the 25th day of each month into your bank account (or the nearest working day before the 25th).
Probationary period
There will be a probationary period of 26 weeks, which is extended to 36 weeks for staff who join the college between 1 June and 31 August. During the probationary period, you will have at least 3 meetings with your line manager who will review your progress and assess your suitability for the post. The college reserves the right to extend the probationary period if necessary.
Line management and appraisal scheme
All staff are entitled to regular one-to-one line management meetings with their manager at least once each term. You will also have an annual appraisal where you and your line manager will assess your progress, set targets for the following year and agree any training needs.
Exclusivity of service
Whilst you are employed by the college you should not undertake any other form of employment which may interfere or conflict with your college duties, unless you have written consent from the college.
Travel between sites
Some staff may be required to travel between our Isleworth campus and the Skills Centre in Feltham. We allow 40 minutes travel time for this, which is 30 minutes off contact time for lecturers, however, there is no contact time reduction for Curriculum Team Managers.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
The DBS are the agency who conduct criminal background checks on behalf of the college. If you are offered employment at the college, you will be required to have an enhanced DBS check to assess your suitability to work within an educational environment.
Sickness
If you are absent from work due to an injury or sickness, you must comply with the college sickness procedures. You will be paid in accordance with the college’s sick pay scheme.
Notice periods
The notice period is usually three calendar months for teaching staff and one calendar month for support staff. Notice periods for the College Executive Team and some Senior Management posts are negotiated separately.
