West Thames College’s recent Outstanding Ofsted rating is a testament to the dedication and talent of its staff and students. Amongst them is Madhura, an ICT educator who has been with the college for three years, playing a pivotal role in preparing students for the ever-evolving world of technology.
Madhura’s passion for ICT began in her school days, when she discovered programming and its ability to solve real-world problems.
“I loved how I could use coding to solve problems and create useful things,” she recalled.
Her interest in the dynamic and ever-changing nature of technology led her to pursue a bachelor’s and master’s degree in IT. While studying, she realised she had a talent for helping others understand complex concepts, inspiring her to become a teacher.
At West Thames College, Madhura teaches programming and project management to Level 2, Level 3, and T Level students, guiding them as they gain confidence in their skills. She connects her lessons to real-world applications to make learning engaging and relevant.
“I share my enthusiasm by showing students how ICT connects to their lives and careers. We design apps, solve problems through coding, and explore real-world challenges,” she explained.
Madhura believes ICT is uniquely significant in today’s interconnected world, where technology impacts every industry.
“By studying ICT, students gain skills that are not only useful but also in high demand. Whether it’s learning how to program, analyse data, or work in cybersecurity, ICT gives students the tools to succeed in any industry,” she said.
Her students’ success speaks volumes about her teaching. From Level 3 graduates working in IT roles at the NHS and local councils to others pursuing degrees in computer science, AI, and cybersecurity, Madhura takes pride in the accomplishments of her learners.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see students flourish and achieve their dreams,” she shared.
Reflecting on the recent Ofsted inspection, Madhura highlighted the department’s focus on aligning teaching with real-world applications and industry needs.
“We consistently review and update our curriculum to stay relevant, ensuring our students are prepared for future careers or studies. Being part of West Thames is incredibly rewarding. The recognition is a testament to the high standards we uphold and the positive impact we have on our students,” she said.
