There are also lots of ways to get involved with the college and to work with local community.
You’ll be surprised by the benefits it could bring to your business.
Our Employability Adviser will make sure students are ready to hit the ground running from the start.
Work placements are full-time for one or two weeks, giving students opportunities to gain the skills that employers need.
Internships are longer term, intensive work experience programmes. Typically held over the summer, they are undertaken by students who know the type of job they want to do.
Student project placements are short-term work on a live project or brief. Students on relevant courses work to deliver an innovative and practical solution.
Mentor a student - help to build their confidence and employability skills. It can also help you to create a talent pipeline into your business as well as developing the skills of existing staff.
Work shadowing - invite a student to observe employees in the workplace to get an idea of their role and gain a better understanding of what employment is like in a particular field.
Mock interviews – help students to practice their interview techniques.
Insight visits – deliver a talk either at your work place or at the college to give students relevant, up-to-date information about your industry.
Judge a challenge or competition at one of our events held throughout the year. Set a stimulating challenge and provide feedback on the results. This is a great way to spot new talent.

T-Levels are a new, two-year qualification for 16 to 19 year olds. Designed with employers’ needs in mind, each T-Level is equivalent to three A Levels and helps young people develop the knowledge, attitude and practical skills to thrive in the workplace.
At the heart of each course, a 45-day industry placement which will give you early access to the brightest talent entering your market.
West Thames College is delivering T-Levels in two routes from September 2023 and four routes from September 2024. These are:
Digital - apply now (starting in September 2023)
Health – apply now (starting in September 2023)
Construction - starting in September 2024
There are a range of benefits offered to businesses through the industry placements that T-Levels offer. You'll get early sight of the new talent coming into your industry, creating a clear recruitment pipeline to your business.
New talent can improve innovation and increase your organisation’s productivity. They also have important social benefits as you’ll be helping to develop the next generation of talent, giving them a chance to shine in your business.
T-Levels give you a smart solution to entry-level jobs, with industry placements helping you find the right candidates for junior positions or Apprenticeships.
Other recruitment benefits:
Avoid the costs associated with recruitment, as you’ll be working directly with West Thames College to find your future talent directly at its source.
Work directly with the future workforce of your sector, giving you the opportunity to develop the skills your industry needs for its future success.
Your current employees will also get to develop their skills, through mentoring and coaching young people as part of the T-Levels placements. It’s widely proven that growing these key management and leadership skills boosts job satisfaction!
T-Level placements are not just for large businesses. T-Level placements can give an SME an invaluable source of new ideas that might be able to innovate the way you do business!
Industry placements create opportunities for a diverse range of 16 to 19-year-olds. Diversity helps your organisation understand customers better, creates better performing teams and increases innovation and creativity.
Traditionally, organisations have supported social causes by making charitable donations. Industry placements are different in that they help create ‘shared value’. They’re a way of giving back that benefits the young people in your community as well as your business.
A commitment to industry placements raises your organisation’s profile, locally and nationally, especially as T-Levels gain more public exposure with your customers and clients.
We can offer you all the support you need to find out more about industry placements as part of T-Levels, so that you're ready to start your journey to developing the next generation of talent within your company.
