This course is designed to increase learners' knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental well-being. By completing this course, you will develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health. It will also support progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector.
  • About the Course

    This course will focus on the study of mental health and mental well-being to support different occupational areas and offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge and understanding.

    You will explore and understand:

    • Mental health legislation, services and public attitudes and how these have evolved
    • How to support mental well-being through various stages of life
    • the skills required to work in a mental health service
    • Mental ill-health, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill-health

    Learners will be required to complete a portfolio to cover the 5 units:

    • Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing
    • Promotion of mental health and wellbeing
    • Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences
    • Understanding mental ill health
    • Working in mental health
  • Entry Requirements
    Level 2 English or assessed at Level 2. If you do not have a level 2 qualification in English, you will need to complete an initial assessment to ensure suitability for the course. A suitable level 2 qualification in Health and social care
  • Progression
    Upon successful completion of the course, you could progress to employment or further studies.
  • Assessment Method
    The portfolio will include written assignments such as reports, case studies or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet and presentation notes and personal development plan.
