As part of T Levels Week (13–17 October), West Thames College is celebrating the incredible achievements of our Health students — future paramedics, nurses, and healthcare professionals who are already making their mark through hands-on learning and real-world experience.
Our T Level in Health offers an exciting and practical route into one of the most rewarding and vital sectors in the UK. Equivalent to three A Levels, this two-year qualification combines classroom study with extensive industry placements, allowing students to apply their learning directly within hospitals, clinics, and healthcare settings. Students develop both the technical knowledge and interpersonal skills needed to thrive in a fast-paced and people-focused profession.
Real Experience. Real Impact.
One of the defining features of the T Level in Health is its industry placement — a core part of the course that gives students the chance to work alongside experienced healthcare professionals. This invaluable experience builds confidence, develops practical skills, and helps students discover where their passions lie within the broad field of health and social care.
For Kieran Wood, a dedicated T Level Health student, this practical experience has been life-changing. Starting his journey with a Level 2 in Health and Social Care, Kieran progressed to the T Level with a clear goal in mind — to become a paramedic.
“Being on placement and working with real patients gave me a glimpse of what life in the health sector is truly like,” says Kieran. “It’s helped me confirm that becoming a paramedic is exactly what I want to do—and West Thames College has given me the foundation to make that happen.”
Through placements in hospitals and care settings, Kieran has built the essential skills of teamwork, communication, and critical thinking — all while gaining a realistic understanding of the challenges and rewards of healthcare. His journey reflects the power of combining academic learning with real-world practice.
Similarly, Hinali, another T Level Health student, has discovered her passion for patient care through the course. Her placements have provided not only valuable experience but also a deeper understanding of the compassion required in healthcare.
“My T-Level studies have given me the confidence and experience I need to pursue my dream career,” says Hinali. “I’ve learned that empathy and understanding are just as important as clinical skills — and that’s something I’ll carry with me throughout my career in nursing.”
Inspired by her experiences, Hinali plans to become a registered nurse, with hopes of specialising in paediatric care — a perfect example of how T Levels can open doors to diverse and meaningful careers.
