This one year course will give you an insight into the barbering career path. You will learn techniques such as clipper work, scissor work, client consultation, cutting facial hair, blow drying and styling.

  • About the Course

    This course covers all aspects of Barbering learning practical skills in our professional barbers salons enhanced by theoretical knowledge.

    You will study:
    • How to shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
    • Style hair using drying techniques
    • Colouring
    • Clipper and scissor work
    • Client care and communication.
    You can take part in competitions and visit trade fairs. We recommend you have salon experience whilst studying. You will also study Maths and English either at functional skill level or GCSE level.

    £342.98 barbering kit, tunic and textbook (cost subject to change).

  • Entry Requirements

    2 or more GCSEs at grade D / grade 3 or above or Level 1 or Foundation Hairdressing with functional skills in English and maths. Some work experience dealing with the public is preferable.   • Progression

    You could progress to a Level 3 hairdressing course or you can progress in a career in the barbering industry.

  • Assessment Method

    Assessment is continuous throughout the course. You will develop a portfolio of evidence which includes documentation of competence from observations; oral questioning, assignments and written tests. There are four areas of assessment:

    • Practical: you carry out the skill
    • Oral: you answer questions on your underpinning knowledge of the skill
    • Written: a portfolio of evidence or a written test or an assignment, depending on the unit.
    • Online tests.
