This course for 16-18 year olds, will give you a good introduction to the practical aspects of media production. You will create a variety of exciting media work which will include both video and audio, using our new editing and studio facilities. The course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at A*-C and provides a good basis to go on to further qualifications.

This course is for 16-18 year olds who are creative and interested in a career in the creative media industries, including television, film, radio and print.
You will normally work in a group of about 16 students, as well as individually, and emphasis is placed on your ability to work as a member of a team. The course is usually timetabled over three days. It is practically based but you will also gain an understanding of how the media industries communicate meanings to their targeted audiences. Practical projects will be taught in our state-of-the-art professional TV studio equipped with 3 multi-cameras, using the latest technologies in film editing such as Final Cut and Adobe Audition for radio production.

In the second half of the course you will begin working towards a final major project.
You will improve your English and maths and gain employability skills as part of your course.
You will go on industry visits e.g. to Sky Studios, and take part in workshops and go to regular film screenings.
Assessment is through assignment based work. The emphasis is on practical work, although a certain amount of written work is required. The work is graded into pass, merit and distinction. In order to achieve the diploma you are required to pass all areas of the course.
Level 3 Extended Diploma in Media Production. Because it is an introductory course, the Level 2 Diploma will not normally lead directly into professional media work.
