Plumbing - City & Guilds Diploma

This 1-year qualification provides an introduction for people thinking about a career in plumbing. It covers a variety of practical tasks and techniques, helping you to build your skills and confidence and gain an insight into the plumbing industry. The course is designed as a first step into a career in plumbing.

Who is this course for?

Young people and adults who are considering a career in building services engineering, perhaps working as an a plumber, electrician or air conditioning engineer.

About the course

You will study:

  • Structure of the construction industry
  • Fundamental safe working practices
  • Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
  • Site preparation for working in the construction industry
  • Above ground drainage
  • Copper pipework
  • Plastic pressure pipework
  • Low carbon steel pipework
  • Installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems
  • Plumbing science.

There are timetabled sessions designed to enhance your English and maths and you will receive separate certificates for these on successful completion of the programme.

You may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase your qualifications, or to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve your grade. These qualifications will enhance your employment opportunities.

Additional opportunities

Enrichment is an important part of your programme of study and there is a wide and exciting range of opportunities to choose from, including sport, volunteering and entrepreneurial skills. You can develop new hobbies and interests, volunteer, learn new skills and raise your confidence and self-esteem. How will I be assessed?

You'll be assessed by means of multiple choice and written examinations as well as practical demonstrations and assignments.

Where next?

You can go on to a Level 2 course, find an apprenticeship or employment.

This course is free for students under 19 years, however you will be required to purchase personal protective equipment including gloves and safety spectacles.
