Information and Creative Technology - Level 3

The BTEC National Extended Diploma in Computing is a two year course which is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is accepted by universities across the country. It is also the ideal course for someone seeking employment in a computing sector. This course is designed to introduce you to a wide range of computing disciplines. You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge of and skills in computer science, computer systems and networks and social media in business, enabling you to progress to further study of the computing sector or other sectors.

In the first year you will study a range of units and on successful completion achieve a BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Computing. On successful completion of additional units studied in the second year you will achieve the Extended Diploma in Computing.

You will study:

  • Unit 1: Principles of Computer Science
  • Unit 2: Fundamentals of computer Systems
  • Unit 7: IT Systems Security and Encryption
  • Unit 8: Business Applications of Social Media
  • Unit 15: Website Development
  • Unit 14: Computer Games Development / Unit 17: Mobile Apps Development

In the second year you will do additional units which will consist of some core units

This course consists of the 90-credit Diploma in Year 1 followed by the Extended Diploma in Year 2.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by means of exam, external and internal set assignments depending on the unit.

Where next?

An HNC/HND or degree programme at university or employment.

Entry requirements

At least 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C / grade 9-5 including maths and English or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma with a merit (or equivalent) including functional skills in English and maths.
