Information and Creative Technology - Level 2

This course focuses on common computer applications and skills valued by employers in the workplace, including website development, networking, databases, spreadsheets and installing computer hardware. It is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at A*-C and provides a good basis to go on to further qualifications.

Who is this course for?

This course is best suited for young people who are interested in a career in ICT.

About the course

You will study the following core units:

  • The online world
  • Technology systems
  • A digital portfolio.

You will also study a mix of further units, such as:

  • Creating digital animation
  • Creating digital graphics
  • Mobile apps development
  • Computer networks
  • Website development
  • Installing computer hardware

You will be expected to take retake GCSE Maths and English alongside your qualification if you achieved a Grade D.

Additional opportunities

You will have the opportunity to visit business organisations such as British Airways to gain an insight into the use of IT. There will also be a range of enrichment activities that you would be expected to participate in throughout the year.

How will I be assessed?

The BTEC qualification includes online tests. Units 1 and 2 are assessed by online tests which are then marked externally. The remaining units are internally assessed using a range of assessment methods such as case studies, written reports, presentations and practical tasks.

Where next?

If you achieve a merit you can progress to the Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in IT.

Entry requirements
