Apprenticeship in ICT (IT, Software, Web and Telecoms Professionals) - Advanced

The IT industry develops computer solutions that help businesses and individuals become more successful in their work. IT professionals serve customers in all types of business. They could be developing software or websites, helping companies set up new systems, or training people to use their IT facilities.

This 15 month Apprenticeship offers a practical approach and a solid platform for anyone wishing to train as an IT Professional. As an Apprentice you will hold a full time job for four days per week and attend college one day a week throughout the programme. You will work towards a framework of qualifications which make up the Apprenticeship.

Qualification: Level 3 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals.

Level: Level 3

Mode: PT 1 day per week at the college and 4 days in the workplace

Start Date: 05 September 2016

Who is this course for?
This apprenticeship programme is designed for new entrants to a role in the IT and Telecoms sector, and to provide progression and re-skilling routes for existing IT Professionals. Apprentices can work in areas such as: Software and Web Development, Technical Support, Telecommunications and IT Project Management. This apprenticeship is made up of a series of qualifications and learning that will provide apprentices with the skills and knowledge required to become competent in their chosen job role.
About the course

Competence Qualification
You will study for the Level 3 Diploma in professional Competence for IT and Telecomes Professionals. You will be studying a range of units which can include:

  • Computer games development
  • Technical fault diagnosis
  • Investigating and defining customer requirements for ICT systems
  • Software installation and upgrade
  • Testing ICT systems

Knowledge Qualification
You will study for the Level 3 Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles. Units offered include:

  • Supporting organisations with IT
  • Setting up an IT network
  • Maintaining computer systems
  • Web development and E-commerce

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
Personal, learning and thinking skills (PLTS) provide a framework for describing the qualities and skills needed for success in learning and life. You will be covering the following skills:

  • Independent enquirers
  • Creative thinkers
  • Reflective learners
  • Team workers
  • Self-managers
  • Effective participants

Transferable Skills Qualifications
You will also work towards completing functional skills in maths and English if you do not have grade A*–C in these subjects at GCSEs.

You will also complete courses in:

  • Personal learning and thinking skills
  • Maths functional skills level 1
  • English functional skills level 1
  • Employment rights and responsibilities.
Where next?
The Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship programme offers you the opportunity to further progress in your studies and go on to undertake a related IT degree programme. You could select from Bachelors degrees, Foundation degrees, Higher Nationals or another higher level qualification, in areas such as Computing, Business Information Systems, IT or Telecommunications. You may also elect to continue within your job role and pursue your learning by undertaking additional technical, business or managerial level training and qualifications.
Entry requirements
4 GCSE passes at grades A*-C including English and maths are required.
